Panorama

Coined “Glass House” for its many large windows with expansive views, this vacation home in the Promontory community of Park City is an example of a design approached with nuance. The architecture and design was curated to reflect the natural setting which is extraordinarily quiet, both visually and audibly. This hillside haven draws from its sweeping vistas of land and sky for luminous yet grounded furnishings. It opens to the landscape with great light penetration which allows the rooms to feel as if they’re floating above the scenery. To create a serene atmosphere, the design team utilized a palette of neutral tones which advance the airy scheme created by the wide landscape.

The pivoting entry door opens to the spacious great room wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows and crowned with a tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling. The overhead wood extends seamlessly to the underside of outdoor overhangs, blurring the line between indoors and out. Underfoot, wide-plank rift oak floors anchor the interior with a dramatic, near-black finish. Open living spaces fill the main level with shapely furnishings, hushed tones and striking features, including a modern stone fireplace, sculpture-like open staircase and handsome built-in cabinetry which balance the spaces between heft and lightness. The heft of the monolithic limestone fireplace was balanced with the clerestory windows and suspended ethereal cage of lights which illuminate and fill the volume of the space without adding mass. “This house has a great balance between heft and lightness,” Rocke explains.

Indulge in Unparalleled Luxury

The design team furnished the luxurious primary suite with a channel-tufted bed and low-profile velvet chairs that allow stunning views and glorious light to flow unimpeded throughout the airy space. Here, and in an adjacent sitting area set beyond a steel and limestone three-sided fireplace, floor-to-ceiling, semi-sheer ombre draperies foster the suite’s dream-like décor. Continuing the dream state, plush blue-green rugs and sumptuous fabrics, as well as a custom chandelier and matching sconces resembling dazzling branches of ice crystals. The primary bathroom is equally indulgent, with a freestanding tub overlooking the serene outdoors, floating walnut vanity, three-side glass shower (formed with privacy glass that changes from clear to fogged with a flip of a switch), sparkling Cristallo quartzite surfaces, and a partial glass ceiling that floods the spacious sanctuary in natural light.

Destination

Vacation residences are designed to bring people together, and this retreat embraces that spirit with a thoughtful blend of comfort, function, and playful design. The bunk rooms are a highlight, offering plenty of space for multiple families to gather while still maintaining a sense of coziness and retreat. Each bed is backed by a custom ski-inspired wallcovering, adding a sense of place and adventure, while coordinating blue and orange bedding infuses the room with warmth and cheer. Built-in ladders and shelving not only maximize functionality but also create architectural interest, turning a simple sleeping space into an experience.

An adjoining bathroom continues the theme of balance and versatility, with both a separate shower and a soaking tub to accommodate every preference. A vertical ladder tile pattern on the walls adds movement and dimension, echoing the playful energy of the bunkroom while maintaining a serene, modern tone. Throughout the home, muted colors and rich textures carry through seamlessly—stone, wood, and soft textiles working together to ground the airy layout. Whether retreating for a quiet moment or gathering en masse, these spaces manage to feel both expansive and intimate, perfectly tailored for extended stays and shared memories.
